ἕν τὸ σοφὸν μοῦνον λέγεσθαι οὐκ ἐθέλει καὶ ἐθέλει Ζηνὸς ὄνομα

The wise is one only. It is unwilling and willing to be called by the name of Zeus.

Heraclitus uses the obscure word Ζηνὸς here for Zeus, which is related to the Greek verb ζάω (to live). Some commentators have conjectured that Heraclitus intends this as a play on words. See also fragment 48 (for a clear example of such a play on words) and fragment 11 (for another example of scholarly conjecture).
