ξυνὸν γὰρ ἀρχὴ καὶ πέρας ἐπὶ κύκλου περιφερείας

Concerning the circumference of a circle the beginning and end are common.

Commentary

Kahn suggests that περιφερείας ('the circumference of') could not have been part of Heraclitus' original statement because the word does not appear elsewhere before Aristotle's writings. Thus, he reads, "Concerning a circle ... ." It does not seem to affect the meaning either way.
