Commentary
[ Hide commentary ]Kahn suggests that περιφερείας ('the circumference of') could not have been part of Heraclitus' original statement because the word does not appear elsewhere before Aristotle's writings. Thus, he reads, "Concerning a circle ... ." It does not seem to affect the meaning either way.
