Fragment 20

When they are born, they wish to live and to meet with their dooms — or rather to rest — and they leave children behind them to meet with their dooms in turn.

It is difficult to determine exactly which parts of this fragment are authentic quotations of Heraclitus. It seems clear that Clement, the source for this fragment, at least added "— or rather to rest —", but I take the rest as a quotation.
