χρὴ εὖ μάλα πολλῶν ἵστορας φιλοσόφους ἄνδρας εἶναι

Men that love wisdom must be inquirers into very many things indeed.

I consider Heraclitus' use of ἵστορας (inquirers [into]) to be a technical term, referring to the scientific methods of his predecessors. Burnet translates the word as "acquainted [with]". (Read more in the [CATEGORY: knowledge | article on knowledge.)
