τήν τε οἴησιν ἱερὰν νόσον ἔλεγε καὶ τὴν ὅρασιν ψεύδεσθαι

Heraclitus said that thinking is a sacred disease and that sight is deceptive.

If this fragment is genuine at all, it is a paraphrase made by Diogenes Laertius and not a direct quote. It does seem to fit something that Heraclitus may have said. Marcovich points out that the word οἴησιν does not occur anywhere in Greek literature until the fourth century BCE, and thus it is highly unlikely that Heraclitus used this word.
